CURRICULUM SUMMER 2022

Requirements for students:

  • Be between the ages of 12 and 17 years old during the time of camp
  • Currently enrolled in a District of Columbia public school (with proof)
  • Must be able to attend all 2 weeks of DSGSC
  • Must have transportation to and from camp
  • Pledge not to engage in any violent acts while attending DSGSC
  • Vow to respect peers, parents and DSGSC staff
  • Commit to being punctual and giving their best effort 

Writing (virtually): July 11th and 12th  - Time: 9am-12pm 
Filming (In-person): July 18th-20th  - Time: 9am-3pm

CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES: 


(Social)

  • Introduce and develop Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills.
  • Promote community building across DC Wards (reduce peer to peer violence, decrease student to teacher altercations).
  • Reduce the number of gun-related incidents by providing access to visual arts programs.
  • Increase students interest in community building and civic engagement.

(Technical)

  • Introduce various film and production careers
  • Teach fundamental filmmaking and story structure
  • Teach use of cameras, lighting, and sound
  • Introduce basic cinematography skills and editing techniques 

STUDENT OBJECTIVES:


  • Complete one short film projects
  • Create an original script and produce short dialogue scene
  • Produce short protagonist versus antagonist scene
  • Complete a narrative film as final project
  • Upon completion of the program, the students will receive professional camera equipment.
